NZ Barok has made a name for itself as an innovative ensemble, breathing life into lesser known and favourite masterpieces of the Baroque and Classical eras. Taking its name from a strong connection with the Dutch-Belgian school of historical performance it is New Zealand’s only original instrument orchestra. The orchestra was formed in 2004 by cellist Helen Brinkman and violinist Graham McPhail and brings together New Zealand’s leading baroque string specialists. NZ Barok provides New Zealand audiences with the unique opportunity to experience 18th century string music performed with the expressive approaches and historic instruments of the period in which the music was written. NZ Barok has worked and performed with leading New Zealand and international early music artists including Sigiswald Kuijken, Ryo Terakado, Andreas Scholl, Erin Helyard, Rachael Beesley, Anneke Scott, Daniel Yeadon, and Lucinda Moon.
