Sally Tibbles is acknowledged as one of the key figures in New Zealand's Early Music scene. After completing an MMus (1st class hons) in baroque flute at the University of Auckland she undertook study in the Royal Conservatory, The Hague with Wilbert Hazelzet and Barthold Kuijken.
